The immigration laws of the United States permit the
immigration of certain "immediate relatives" to the
U.S.. People who want to become immigrants
are divided into categories based on a preference system.
There are four categories with different waiting times for each
category. The family-based preference
category for an married sons and daughters of U.S. citizens is under the :
3rd. Preference:
Married sons and daughters of U.S. citizens.
If you are an married son or daughter of a U.S.
citizen – you belong to the 3rdt Preference - , your U.S.
citizen parent can file your petition, but this
petition does not allow you to obtain your residency
immediately and it does not give you the right to work legally in the U.S.
If you want to obtain your residency, you will
have to wait for the visa to become available.
